Magnolia Creek Stream Repairs
Magnolia Lane, Union County, NC
MMI was approached by a landowner in Union County – south of Charlotte in early 2024. They had received a Notice of Violation from the NCDEQ-DWR for unauthorized work in a jurisdictional stream flowing through their property. The unauthorized work involved filling in the stream and building two ponds. A neighbor reported the landowner who was not aware of the rules and was quick to comply with the NOV Letter. MMI designed a stream repair plan that was quickly approved by the NCDEQ-DWR and we assisted the homeowner with implementing the stream repairs. We assisted the homeowner who used the entire family including two teens to restore the stream. They learned a lot from this project. The crew was able to dig the restored channel, install rock structures and plant live stakes for over 400 linear feet of jurisdictional stream channel. We installed willow and dogwood live stakes along the stream banks. The final result was a new stable stream with nice rock work in compliance with the Clean Water Act. Both the agencies and the landowner were pleased with the results and they just received the letter retracting the NOV.
